Cory & Shawn: It should've been called "Boy Meets Best Friend".
"Why don't you just marry Shawn?" - Topanga
"Cause our kids would look like horses." - Cory
Many have hailed Cory and Topanga as one of the greatest romances of their generation. But, honestly, Cory and Topanga's story seems like a dirty one-nighter compared to the epic love saga of the show's true power couple - Cory and Shawn.
From goofy problem children to goofy problem adults, Cory and Shawn were the perfect example of the best-friendship everyone should have. Trusting, loyal, understanding, and more than a little co-dependent, they spent every day of their lives either together, or whining about not being together. They named their pets after each other. They dressed up as women for each other. They faced girlfriend problems, family problems, and school problems, and they faced them all knowing that if one slipped, the other would always be there to make fun of them, and then help them back up.
Cory and Shawn were more than just best friends. They were brothers... with weird sexual tension. When Shawn's girlfriend didn't like Cory, he became the quintessential other woman, and he and Shawn pulled more sneaky maneuvers than Lindsay Lohan in a jewelry store. They were so emotionally and mentally connected that I wouldn't be surprised if Shawn knew about Topanga's pregnancy before any of them... just because he was that in tune with Cory's DNA.
Speaking of Topanga, Cory's other "great love," I don't see how she lasted as long as she did in a polyamorous relationship. Every big moment, every romantic night, if Shawn wasn't there in person, he was definitely there in spirit. Every decision both boys made was done with the other's feelings in mind. But, I guess after that many years, she was used to it.
But, let's be real. Screw marriage, children, and all that nonsense. Cory and Shawn's relationship was deeper than any piece of paper, spawn, or modern romance could allow. They were bros, and that made all the difference.
